Revenge of the Forest
I worked as a special effects makeup artist for the web series “the Spirealm” produced by iQiyi. This series tells the story of designer Ling Jiushi who gets entangled in a life-or-death challenge due to a mysterious game, and must win the game to save his life.
The whole costume breaks the record for production difficulty in the history of Chinese film industry. With the help of the Shadowflag Studio, I successfully created this unprecedented look, which perfectly embodies the angry embodiment of the forest in the script through special effects makeup.
As a web series with a rare magical theme in China, this drama has sparked widespread attention and discussion.
In the story, Ajie was skinned by her blood younger sister. With her fury, Ajie used the magic of the forest to rebuid her skin, trying to kill anyone who breaks into the woods.
l developed a new mixture of sulphide and organic materials for a special mixed fabric used in tight-fitting garments, to represent the skin and flesh in a deadly but beautiful way.
With LED lights wrapped around the actor’s body, flickering lights come through the corset, as if the magic of the forest is flowing through her body.
